Who doesn’t remember the monumental Boel shipyard in Temse? Today, the former shipyard has been transformed into De Zaat, a pioneering mix of business activity and cosy living. Residentie Belgica, an 11-storey residential tower with two recessed ‘crown floors’, is the very last project on the front line of De Zaat in Temse. The first residents moved in recently, making the project the final piece in the reconversion of the Boelwerf. The design was commissioned by property developer Nieuw Temse/Cordeel. Inspired by the water of the Scheldt, we opted for an organic form for the tower. The façade is covered in white profiled aluminium and wrapped by a wave-like balcony in white architectural concrete. The wood accents in the ceilings of the balconies and the main entrance create a warm contrast.
