“Located on the current Ter Poele site – to the north of the centre of Bruges – is a park estate that used to belong to castle estate ‘Ter Poele’.”
The castle site with landscape garden is still there. In the centre of the site is a hotel, to which an assisted living centre and 48 service flats will be added.
To determine these 2 new volumes we needed to incorporate the unfinished building volumes already in the central construction zone.
” For the service flats we opted for a patio typology. This volume comes to the foreground most and gives a new face to the site.”
Between the hotel and this volume an interesting stretched out square is created which allows access to the hotel and the service flats. The assisted living centre is a stretched out bar volume.
The plan takes maximum account of the central connecting link, and strengthening and finishing the accessibility on the site. The plot room structure and the wings of the existing park stay the same and where possible are reinforced to increase the landscape legibility of the site.
Further on the site you can find the residential care centre with 32 care rooms and 48 assisted living units. The rooms are equipped with a fixed module which can easily be switched from care rooms to assistance homes.
For this project we are working together with Aldea as a care partner who is also part of the current team.
