B2Ai, along with VenhoevenCS architecture+urbanism, Tractebel and Artes Depret, has been selected for the design and realization of the new swimming pool in Ypres. The new compact swimming pool will feature a 25x25m sports pool, a multifunctional instruction pool with a movable floor up to 3m depth, and a refined recreational area with play elements.
Surrounding the pools, secondary functions will be integrated within a rectangular framework. In analogy with the fortification walls on the other side of the sports site, the rectangular framework will be broken by locally recessing the areas between the secondary functions. This breaking of the rectangular framework and the interplay of building heights emphasizes the corner volumes of the building, giving it the same volumetric expression as the existing fortifications.
