Open oasis of tranquility
Childcare The Bron is a small green oasis, hidden behind a facade on the busy Bevrijdingslaan in Ghent. On the site, the original two buildings lay back to back against each other. The design made grateful use of this location. The current nursery was again conceived on both sides. At the rear, the nursery adjoins a public car park, which makes the ‘hand off & ride’ extra comfortable. The original two-pandliness was used to give the childcare an extra presence.
“The green indoor playground is the heart of the project and is surrounded by spacious loggias.”
These provide an open view and the necessary protection against sun and rain. When the weather is not so good, the covered passages also provide a welcome extension to the indoor play areas.
On one side of the courtyard there are the six living groups and other functions. The communal groups lead into a multifunctional corridor with a two-sided orientation, which forms the backbone of the building.
“The light basic materials and multi-coloured accents make De Bron a pleasant and safe place to stay for both children and staff.
