On Monday 18th of march the official deconstruction of ‘De Leopoldskazerne’ in Gent was started. The Province of East-Flanders together with the consortium THV Leopold will transform this site into a sustainable neighbourhood that will accommodate a new House of Province, 82 apartments, 10 single family houses, a hotel, a nursery, classrooms, an underground multipurpose space (with depot, archive and parking), the Higher Institute for Fine Arts (HISK) and Defence. In the middle of this neighbourhood an urban green space is created by the Parade Square. This square and is connected to the new Province Square and a collective garden. In fall (re)construction starts to complete the House of Province, the hotel and part of the residential area by September 2021. Take a look at the project.
