Laying of the foundation stone at Egied van Broeckhovenschool in Molenbeek

Yesterday, in Sint-Jans-Molenbeek, in the presence of ministers Weyts, Gatz, Smet and Dalle, deputies Jef Van damme and Marc Desmet sj laid the symbolic first stone for the construction of a new Dutch-speaking secondary Jesuit school. The Egied Van Broeckhoven School will open its doors in September 2023 and will eventually offer space to 850 pupils in ASO, BSO and TSO education within the domains of STEM and Society & Welfare.

The building will also be given a contemporary interpretation architecturally: the classical system of classes and corridors is no longer a match with teaching methods such as co-teaching, with renewed IT techniques. The school of the future will be one with flexible classrooms, including spaces outside of the school walls. This stimulates the interaction between the school and its surroundings. The former brewery building with its old-industrial façades and historical concrete structures provides the perfect framework to turn this ambition into a reality.

The complete team consists of the ABC02 consortium, which is made up of Alheembouw NV and Invesis in collaboration with B2Ai architects & Stefaan Thiers, VK architects+engineers and BAM FM.
